
Production
All of these plays are written as stage pieces for either amateur or professional production. The gender of the "Persons of the Play" is as follows:
Washington: 1 Male; 3 Female
Adams: 3 Male; 1 Female
Jefferson: 6 Male
Madison: 10 Male; 3 Female
Monroe: 8 Male; 4 Female
John Quincy Adams: 5 Male
Tyler: 4 Male, 2 Female
Van Buren: 3 Male, 3 FemalePlays in preparation and planning will continue an attempt to keep the casts small.
The production time of each play is approximately 30 minutes.
All of the plays
require only one set which vary in complexity from the relatively simple of Jefferson to the relatively complex of Madison, a split stage.Specific permission
to perform must be obtained from The History Project, Inc., which is the sole owner of all rights to the plays in Character in Time: The US Presidents series. Permission to present a production for audiences should be requested in writing to history@valink.com or The History Project, Galax, VA 24333.In a permission request, information should be included which indicates the name of the producing company or the auspices under which such performances will be mounted, the number of performances planned, the dates of such performances and the expected admission charges. Should you wish to speak to a History Project representative, please indicate such by electronic mail, making sure to include a telephone number and a convenient time for calling, and a representative will contact you.
It could be expected that a
royalty will be charged for all performances for which there is an admission charge. Special arrangements may be possible for charitable or educational performances. All copies of the plays may be ordered from The History Project by email at history@valink.com or by mail at The History Project, 2234 Little River Rd., Galax, VA 24333 or by telephone at 540-236-0257. Photocopying or any other kind of reproduction of the scripts is expressly prohibited. The script order should include copies for each character, a director and a stage manager. You may wish to order other copies for the lighting director, prompter, costumer, properties person, and for your local library. Discounts may be available for the rehearsal scripts of two or more plays in a single production.
